BATON ROUGE (AP) — Deputies say the mother of a 2-year-old boy who was choked into unconsciousness by a vehicle window after he was left alone in a car July 3 has been arrested.
Livingston Parish Sheriff Jason Ard told The Advocate 20-year-old Candace Gordon, of Denham Springs, was booked Tuesday with on one count of second-degree cruelty to juveniles and two counts of child desertion.
Ard says Gordon stopped at the home of an acquaintance and left her son and 14-month-old daughter in her vehicle with the engine still running.
Deputies say the boy managed to free himself from his car seat and began manipulating the controls to the windows of the vehicle. The boy then rolled the passenger window up onto his neck.
The boy was treated at a hospital and released.
