A 58-year-old Westlake man on supervised parole for a vehicular homicide in 2004 was arrested for allegedly driving while intoxicated over the weekend, authorities said.

David Glen Prater, 825 Goss Road, No. 2, was also arrested for driving without a license and careless operation, Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Kim Myers said Monday in a news release.

Bond was set at $252,000.

Myers said it was his second fourth-offense DWI.

“Prater refused to perform a field sobriety test and also refused to submit a breath intoxilyzer test,” Myers said.

Prater pleaded guilty to vehicular homicide and fourth-offense DWI in December 2005. He was involved in a three-vehicle accident at the top of the Interstate 210 bridge on Feb. 23, 2004, that left Sulphur man Joshua Martin, 22, dead. Prater’s truck had run into the median and was stalled without signal lights on. Martin’s vehicle ran into Prater’s.

State police said Prater “just sat there.”

He was given a 15-year prison sentence, but was out on supervised parole.

Prater was one of two men arrested over the weekend for fourth-offense DWI for the second time, Myers said.

Sulphur man Michael Paul Miller, 33, 2930 Joel Road, was arrested for disabling his ignition interlock device and possession of an alcoholic beverage in a motor vehicle, Myers said.

His bond was set at $205,500.

Title:

Actually, the three vehicle accident happened on February 22, 2004. A minor detail compared to the severity of this situation, but it was my brother Josh Martin who was killed and that is a date I will never forget. I also passed by the accident.
