Times-Picayune employees of changing paper learning fate

Last Modified: Tuesday, June 12, 2012 10:29 AM

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Employees are meeting one-on-one with managers of The Times-Picayune as the newspaper prepares to reduce its printing schedule from daily to three days a week.

Parent company Advance Publications plans to form a new company, NOLA Media Group, to oversee The Times-Picayune and its affiliated website, NOLA.com.

The newspaper said in a story on the changes that employees would be told at Tuesday's meetings whether they will have a job with NOLA Media Group or be offered a severance package to leave the 175-year-old newspaper. Some staffers who learned their fates were letting friends and colleagues know through social media sites on Tuesday.

The newspaper said some employees who are not offered positions Tuesday will be able to apply for jobs later.
