Teen stabbed during ‘mini riot’

A 15-year-old was stabbed during a “mini riot” on Dixy Drive involving 20 to 30 juveniles Sunday, authorities said.

Another juvenile is suspected in the stabbing, Lake Charles Deputy Police Chief Mark Kraus said.

The juveniles had been to a party at Suffolk Manor in which the hosts had charged cover, and about 60 to 100 people attended, Kraus said. He said some of the juveniles left the party to watch a fight in the 2800 block of Dixy Drive. Several of them got involved in the fight, which resulted in the stabbing, Kraus said.

Ericka Glodd, 40, and Dovante Glodd, 19, were cited with eight counts of contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile and one count of operating a teen club in connection with the party. Seven citations were also given to parents who allowed their children out after curfew.

Curfew is from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday through Thursday and from midnight to 5 a.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. There are exceptions, such as when a child is leaving a school or church event.

Kraus said police often see youths breaking curfew, either because they are disobeying their parents’ orders or because the parents are apathetic.

“Those are the kids that are either going to get in trouble or get hurt,” Kraus said in a news release. “It’s not the taxpayers’ responsibility to handle or manage people’s children.”

Kraus said police are planning a juvenile detail for this weekend. Juveniles caught out after curfew will be arrested and their parents issued misdemeanor summonses, he said.

“As far as we’re concerned, we’re most interested in the children’s safety,” Kraus said. “We want kids to have a great time and a great adolescent experience, but when it bleeds over to causing destruction or crimes or fighting or stabbings, it’s as serious as any adult crime.”””
