A 15-year-old boy was in critical condition after being shot by a 12-year-old boy Tuesday evening at a residence in mid-Lake Charles, authorities said.
The 12-year-old, who lived at the house at 2512 Demarest St., left the home but was apprehended, said Deputy Police Chief Mark Kraus.
The shooting happened during an argument between the boys, who were friends or acquaintances, Kraus said. The gun is believed to have been legally owned by the homeowner, he said.
Because of his age, the name of the 12-year-old is not being released, Kraus said.
“We’re concerned about the well-being of our victim and the neighborhood,” Kraus said. “It’s a sad day in America when a 12-year-old shoots a 15-year-old.”
Charges were not yet filed, but Kraus said anyone over 10 years old is considered legally culpable for their actions. A 12-year-old cannot be charged as an adult, District Attorney John DeRosier said.

He shot him because he walked up to him and started threatening him. Then he spit in his face. So he went inside and got the gun and shot him in the spine. I know the shooter
