A Lake Charles homeowner opened an envelope Friday to find white powder, authorities said.

Preliminary field tests showed the substance to be baby powder, although it will be sent to a lab for further testing, said James Anderson, Louisiana State Police Troop D spokesman.

The white powder spilled on a male resident of the home in the 1100 block of 7th Street as he opened an envelope, Anderson said. The man did not seek medical attention, Anderson said.

Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s officers responded to the call initially and state police investigated the suspicious powder.

State police sent HazMat responders to the scene as well as an investigator, Anderson said.

Authorities did not have a suspect Friday afternoon, Anderson said.””
