A new city ordinance prohibits the use of firecrackers or fireworks of any kind inside the city limits of Sulphur, Mayor Chris Duncan said Wednesday.

Police Chief Lewis Coats said in a news release that officers will confiscate fireworks being used inside city limits unlawfully.

Coats said because the ordinance is new a warning will be given at first offense, but if officers have to return to the site a ticket with a fine up to $500 will be given.
