A former Sulphur police officer who shot and killed a dog in April was indicted on an animal cruelty charge Thursday in state district court.
A grand jury returned a true bill against Brian L. Thierbach on one count of aggravated cruelty to animals, opting for the charge over a lesser charge of simple cruelty to animals.
Thierbach resigned from the Sulphur Police Department in May, following an internal investigation into the shooting of the dog, named Arzy.
A warrant was issued for Thierbach's arrest. Judge Kent Savoie set bond at $20,000.

Title: Where are all the facts

What happened to innocent 'til proven guilty? From day one the officer in question has been portrayed as guilty and incompetent. I own two dogs and would be upset if anything happened to them. However we have a leash law, vaccination requirements, and the right to protect yourself from harm. I will readily admit that I do not know all the facts but I am more than willing to find them out. All I know is that a dog is dead, a man has lost his job, a family has been hurt, lives have been destroyed and now an officer may be facing prison time. I appreciate the police force and applauded their selflessness and personal sacrifices they make.

Title: Gone are the days....

..when you could send "Lassie" to go get the town cop for help. When the cops new that when Lassie barked, her human was in dire need of help. The new generation of police officers will come form the Nintendo, PlayStation and Xbox Generation. Instead of "Lassie" they will have grown up with WarCraft, Call of Duty, Halo, Grand Theft Auto. It is in the colleges and Academies that we need to reestablish the idea of a living and loving creature that does not see them as a friend either, but who they, on many occasions, can make friends with.
