A Sulphur man pleaded guilty Monday in 14th Judicial District Court to 40 counts of aggravated incest.

Sheldon E. Parker, 43, is scheduled to be sentenced Aug. 9.

According to facts presented by prosecutor David Palay, between Jan. 1, 2008 and Aug. 31, 2011, Parker engaged in “numerous incidents of oral sex” with the victim.

The incidents began when the girl was 13 years old.

Palay told Judge David Ritchie that Parker entered the guilty plea, which was not part of a plea deal, so that the victim would not have to testify.

A jury was to be picked this morning.

“This is the best outcome,” Palay said.

“He admitted to everything we could have proven and the victim didn’t have to testify,” he said.

Parker’s attorney, Ted Hartman, said it is the victim’s desire that Parker not die in jail.

Each charge carries five to 20 years incarceration, which Ritchie can sentence concurrently or consecutively because each incident was separate.

Hartman said that at sentencing he plans to call witnesses to show that, with a family history of heart disease, Parker’s life expectancy is another 10-15 years.

He said that the defense will ask for a sentence in that time range.

Title: 40 Counts is NOT BAD?

He's not as bad as we think he is? You're right about a couple of things though, he made one HUGE mistake! And yes it was TERRIBLE! And yes he is a human being; but one that deserves (earned his way in fact) to be in jail for as long as justice will allow it! 40-counts of aggravated incest (that's forcibly having sex with a family member) and one thinks that he deserves a reprieve based on a "thought" that he could have heart problems? Here's the truth; he does have a heart problem, and where was his heart each time he commited these heious acts? If he was man enough to admit (plead guilty) to these charges, then he should be man enough to accept due punishment. Not cowar out and attempt to make a remorseful plea to save his own posterior from doing the time he's earned--and deserves.

Title: Dad of the little girl

I feel he shouldn't be the only one in jail. My girl told the mother weeks before anything took place and the mother did nothing but brainwash the victim. I hope Mr. Parker gets out because he won't have to worry about a heart problem, children will no longer have to worry about another predictor. He will no longer be a problem to the public. Mr. Parker is safer and can be protected in jail.

Title: Medical Issues??

He surely wasn't worried about his heart disease when he was doing this to this little girl. Now they want to bring that up. Before he was jailed for this he was going to pool tournaments and the bingo hall where there is alot of smoke guess he wasn't worried about his heart disease then. This little girl and her family have a heart condition now. It's called broken hearts. Where is justice for that? He deserves to spend the rest of his pitiful life in prison. Only god knows how much time we have on this earth. God knows what he did.

Title: Keep comments to yourself please

Yeah well some aren't exactly as bad as you think they are. You don't know him so shut up. He plead guilty so I wouldn't have to get on the stand. Obviously he has a heart! He made a mistake. It was terrible I know. But he is still a human bein and NOBODY deserves to die in jail. NOBODY.

Title: The Bigger Problem

Here's the bigger problem. This man now openly admits to the crimes he's been charged with and now expects a plea deal based on family medical history? Come on! this is part of what's wrong in our country and society now. Too many criminals are granted plea deals that do not fit their crime. Besides, who decides whether or not this man has 10 to 15 years left to live? His attorney? Phhsshhh.......we all know what that's all about. Here's the reality of his tenure on this earth; only God knows how long he can/will live. And besides that, what ever happen to fair and equal justice?
I'd be willing to bet that if he had used a gun in his crime the case would get far more attention. But hey, it was just 40 counts of aggravated incest of a young girl who was 13; no biggie, right?
