A 34-year-old Sulphur man has been charged with two counts of theft over $500 and theft of a firearm, authorities said.
Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Kim Myers said Charles W. Franks, 1418 Picard Road, was arrested Thursday.
Myers said Franks is accused of stealing several pieces of jewelry and three firearms for a home in Sulphur.
“Franks had been hired to do some work at the victim’s house about the time the items came up missing,” Myers said in a news release. “During further investigation, detectives learned several pieces of the stolen jewelry were sold by Franks to a local thrift store. When questioned by detectives, Franks confirmed he stole the jewelry and handguns.”
The jewelry and two of the three firearms have been returned to the victim, Myers said.
Judge Ron Ware set Franks’ bond at $13,000.
Detective Glenn Lowery was the lead investigator.
