Spring Art Walk set for Friday

The Arts Council of Southwest Louisiana will hold its annual Spring Art Walk 5-9 p.m. Friday, April 29, in downtown Lake Charles.

<span class="R~sep~ACopyBody">“Nineteen downtown businesses will be transformed into pop-up galleries for the evening, complete with street performers, art competitions, and an extensive outdoor art market,” Jody Taylor, Arts Council project coordinator, wrote in a news release.</span>

<span class="R~sep~ACopyBody">“Residents and visitors will be able to tour historic downtown properties and businesses while enjoying refreshments and the best in Southwest Louisiana arts. Venues will offer drink specials, concessions, live performances, demonstrations, and giveaways.”</span>

<span class="R~sep~ACopyBody">This year’s event will again feature the Art War, which pits teams against one another in an hourlong contest to create a mural.</span>

<span class="R~sep~ACopyBody">“Mediums and styles ranging from ink and brush to traditional oil and acrylic and even graffiti will be used as the audience gets to watch the entire creation process, and vote with tip money to choose the winners,” reads the news release. “The winning mural will be displayed at Central School Arts &amp; Humanities Center.”</span>

<span class="R~sep~ACopyBody">Participating Art Walk venues will include 1911 Historic City Hall, 1910 Restaurant &amp; Wine Bar, Pujo St. Cafe, Botsky’s, Salon Mixx, Cotten’s Downtown, Stellar Beans, Freedom Life Church, Tia Juanita’s Fish Camp, Luna Live, Blue Dog Cafe and Haute Couture Salon.</span>

<span class="R~sep~ACopyBody">Maps of participating locations and artists will be available on the Arts Council website, as well as at each venue during the event.</span>
