Spring Art Walk will be 5-9 p.m. Friday, April 25, in downtown Lake Charles.
The event, put on by the area Arts Council and the city, concentrates over 100 visual artists into a few square blocks of the Charlestown Cultural District to draw people into downtown businesses and support the local art scene.
Coffee shops, salons, restaurants and even vacant buildings will be turned into pop-up galleries for the evening. And the 700 and 800 blocks of Ryan Street, which will be closed to traffic at 3 p.m. Friday, will be full of live music, food trucks, the annual Art Battle, and an outdoor art market.
Venues will offer drink specials, demonstrations, after parties and giveaways.
The Art Battle will challenge 10 teams of artists to create a mural in one hour in front of a live audience. The public will choose the winning team by depositing tips into teams’ tip jars.
The winning mural will be featured at Artini Afterhours on May 1 at SpringHill Suites by Marriott.
Participating venues include Cedar Chest Antiques, HEIST Wine Bar, Luna Live, the Art Shop, Salon Lindsay, Before I Die Public Art Wall, Ashley Foret Dees Immigration Law, Stellar Beans, the Yoga Center, the Children’s Museum, Carnegie Memorial Library, the Charleston Hotel, Pujo Street Cafe, Historic 1911 City Hall, the Frame House Gallery, and the Louisiana Market.
