Slidell Burger King robbed on Thanksgiving Day

SLIDELL (AP) — It’s bad enough working at a fast-food restaurant when it seems everyone else is feasting on turkey and trimmings. It’s worse when a gunman takes advantage of the slow Thanksgiving night to hold up the Burger King where you work. Then a joker suggests it was a rival chain’s onetime mascot, the Hamburglar.

Slidell Police Detective Daniel Seuzeneau (soo-zuh-NOH) says the two women on duty at 7:30 p.m. were cleaning in the back when a gunman came in, made them open the cash register, grabbed some cash and ran.

The department’s Facebook page was updated with a description of the robber and a photo of an unidentifiable person running in front of the restaurant. Shortly afterward, a reader posted a “wanted” poster of McDonald’s Hamburglar.

“Unfortunately, The Hamburglar did not fit the description of our suspect, but did give everyone a good laugh!” Seuzeneau wrote in a news release emailed Friday.

The Hamburglar, phased out of McDonald’s advertising campaigns in the past decade, is a pudgy white boy with a single white tooth.

The robber was described as black, in his late 20s to early 30s, between 5-foot-7 and 5-foot-9, with an average build, gold teeth and a black semi-automatic pistol. Police are asking the public to call detectives or Crime Stoppers to help identify him.””
