The Southland Conference changed things up this year by releasing its preseason all-conference team a week before media day, but from the looks of it the league’s coaches won’t be expecting much of a change in the standings.
Defending champion Sam Houston State, which went undefeated until losing to North Dakota State in the FCS Championship, leads the way with an overwhelming 19 selections, including 11 first-team honorees.
McNeese had six players named to the team, with safety Malcolm Bronson and offensive lineman Alec Savoie named to the first team.
Bronson led the Cowboys with 90 tackles last season and was second with three interceptions.
McNeese second-teamers are offensive linemen Jonthan Landry and Miguel Gauthreaux, defensive tackle Pat Williams and returner Darius Carey.
Thirty-five of the 52 team members are returners from the 2011 all-conference team. Stephen F. Austin and Central Arkansas are tied for second with nine selections each.
