Katie Roux knocked in the game’s lone run and Jamie Allred and Meagan Bond combined to toss McNeese State’s sixth shutout of the season as the Cowgirls blanked Louisiana-Monroe 1-0 in a nonconference game Tuesday night to extend their winning streak to 11 games.
McNeese (24-7) broke a scoreless tie in the third inning when Alanna DiVittorio led off the inning with a walk. She stole second base and went to third on a wild pitch by ULM starting pitcher Haylie Wilson (6-9). That set up a one-out RBI single up the middle.
The Cowgirls had a chance to break the game open an inning earlier when they had runners at second and third with one out, but a pop out to shortstop was followed by a grounder to third base to end the threat.
Both teams stranded seven runners, four in scoring position.
ULM (13-15) put runners at the corners with two out in the fourth inning then followed that with runners at second and third with two down. But in both instances, the Cowgirls got out of the jam.
Allred (11-2) threw four scoreless innings, gave up three hits and struck out three. Bond started the fifth inning and allowed one hit with three strikeouts.
Taylor Goree had two of the Cowgirls’ four hits.
