Some friends just do everything together.
Sue Zimmermann and Corene Soileau will be opening their newest exhibit, “Shared Inspirations,” on Tuesday, April 15 in the Art Associates Gallery inside the Central School Arts and Humanities Center, 809 Kirby St.
The exhibit will feature photographs taken by Soileau and then Zimmermann’s interpretation of each photograph through the medium of watercolors.
The pair has been friends for over 25 years and often travel together and with a large group of friends.
“All the trips we go on, many times we take pictures of the same thing. It’s like we think alike and our tastes are alike,” said Zimmerman.
Zimmermann picked out her favorite photographs of Soileau’s to paint, without Soileau knowing which ones she was going to paint, she has only been shown some select pieces.
“Seeing our work together is very thrilling for me because we are such close friends,” said Soileau. “I remember the places and the times when I took those photos together. It brings me great pleasure.
Zimmermann’s watercolors for the exhibit took over a year for her to complete. Typically, she tries to only spend a week on one painting.
Though they have had one show together before, this exhibit is the first collaborative effort between the two.
“Once I think we hang it, I think it’ll all come together,” said Zimmermann. “We’ll see it up and see the connectivity between the two pieces of the artwork.”
Both artists agree on one thing: They couldn’t have done this with anyone else.
“Sue and I have such similar interests, and it just brings back the laughter and good times we had,” Soileau said.
