The Louisiana Choral Foundation’s Masterworks Chorale will perform two collections — one scriptural, the other secular — in concerts today in Lake Charles and Sunday, Dec. 16, in Sulphur. The theme of the concerts is “Peace, Hope and Joy.”
The chorale will be joined by Les Petite Voix, the children’s chorus, and the Bayou Bell Choir, each with its own set of music.
Today’s concert will be at 7:30 p.m. in Immaculate Conception Cathedral in downtown Lake Charles. Sunday’s concert will be at 3 p.m. in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Sulphur.
The chorale will perform “On Christmas Night,” an eight-carol setting by British composer and conductor Bob Chilcott that includes related Bible readings.
A chamber instrumental group will also perform: Simone Santiny, flute; Jo Anna Waite, oboe; Lonny Benoit, percussion; Annette Larsen, synthesized harp; and Abbie Fletcher, keyboard. Fletcher is the chorale’s assistant artistic director and accompanist.
The chorale will then present Reginald Unterseher’s “Christmas Joy!” — a collection of four settings based on carols such as “Deck the Halls,” “Jingle Bells” and “O Christmas Tree.”
Unterseher is chorus master and artistic adviser for Washington East Opera.
The program will conclude with the traditional singing of “O Holy Night” by Les Petites Voix and Masterworks Chorale.
