A man armed with a box cutter robbed a store on Kirkman St. Thursday morning, Lake Charles police said.

Robert McCall, 18, Miller Ave., was charged with armed robbery and aggravated battery. Bond has not yet been set.

McCall allegedly brandished the box cutter, then became physical with the clerk, demanding money and cigarettes, Lt. Kevin Kirkum said in a news release. Everything stolen was recovered by officers, Kirkum said.

Police received the armed robbery call at 7:11 a.m.; while on their way, officers received a description of the direction he fled, Kirkum said. McCall was apprehended in the 3100 block of Common St. within seven minutes, Kirkum said.

Detective Dustin Gaudet is the lead investigator.
