BATON ROUGE (AP) — LSU spokesman Michael Bonnette says linebacker Trey Granier has been granted a request to transfer to Football Championship Subdivision program in Louisiana.

Granier is a redshirt freshman this season and was expected to be a reserve with the Tigers. By transferring to an FCS program, he may play immediately. He would have to sit out a season if he went another team in the NCAA’s Football Bowl Subdivision.

Granier is a native of Thibodaux, where Nicholls State is located. He is reportedly interested in both Nicholls and Northwestern State.

Granier starred for Thibodaux High School. His senior season ended after four games because of a knee injury. Still, he had 36 tackles and returned a fumble and interception for touchdowns before his injury.””
