A woman and man found in a burning house Monday both had gunshots to

the head in what was an apparent murder-suicide, authorities said.

Calcasiue Parish Coroner, Dr. Terry Welke, found that Sandra G.

Russell, 69, died from the gunshot and smoke inhalation, Kim Myers,

Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office spokeswoman, said in a new release.

Charles Russell, 65, died from a self-infliced gunshot to the head, Myers said.

"The investigation revealed Mr. Russell shot Mrs. Russell inside of

the house, set the house on fire, then went into the front yard and

committed suicide," Myers said.

Charles Russell was reportedly found in the door way of the couple's

home at 7435 Elliott Road. Sandra Elliott was found in the back part of

the house, but authorities could not reach her because a hand grenade

was found in the kitchen.
