A Lake Charles man admitted choking and
beating his girlfriend, then dumping her body in rural south Calcasieu
Parish, authorities
said Friday.
Dwane E. Fox, 47, 4016 Harvard St., was
arrested at 4 a.m. Friday for the killing of his 48-year-old
girlfriend, Mychele Cleaver,
whose body was found at the corner of Corbina and Friesen roads,
Calcasieu Parish Chief Deputy Stitch Guillory said at a news
conference Friday.
Fox was charged with second-degree murder and was being held Friday at Calcasieu Correctional Center with no bond set.
The Sheriff’s Office received a call at 3:12 p.m. Thursday that fishermen had found the body in a ditch, Guillory said.
Cleaver’s body was naked and had to be identified through fingerprints, he said. She died of blunt force trauma to the head,
he said.
Once Cleaver was identified, authorities questioned Fox, who confessed to killing her at his home, Guillory said. Fox told
authorities he dumped the body Wednesday, Guillory said.
Guillory said the motive appears to be domestic.
“Once we made contact with family members, at that point we tried to track her movements on the prior two days, and we actually
figured out that the boyfriend was the last person to have seen her alive,” Guillory said.
Cleaver had not been reported missing, he said.
Guillory said authorities could not say whether Fox had dumped Cleaver naked in a rural area to make the death look similar
to those of eight women found dead in Jeff Davis Parish. But that “thought popped up with our investigators,” he said.
