The Welsh Police Department executed three search warrants in Welsh and one in Jennings on Friday in search of information
related to the three unsolved murders and one unsolved shooting in the town over the last two years, authorities said.
Police Chief Tommy Chaisson would not disclose which of the four cases was being investigated, but said the searches would
be a “positive step to solving some of the cases.”
Chaisson said evidence gathered in the searches would be sent to the state police crime lab. State police and the Jeff Davis
Parish Sheriff’s Office assisted in the searches, he said.
In January, 20-year-old Denzell Lamar Lampkin was shot while riding in a vehicle on North Street.
In July 2011, Lorenzo Horne, also known
as Lorenzo Smith, was shot and killed while he and his girlfriend
baby-sat three children
on Willard Street. His girlfriend said she awoke to find Horne
slumped on the floor and moaning.
In February 2011, Robert Craig King, 45, of Webster, Texas, was shot and killed while sitting outside his mother’s home on
Welsh Street.
