A 19-year-old Welsh man, a former Greyhounds basketball player, died Monday morning in a two-vehicle accident, state police said.

Troop D spokesman Albert Paxton said Daven Henderson died after crashing his truck while traveling east on Interstate 10 in Jeff Davis Parish.

"Henderson drove though the median and entered the westbound lanes before overturning," Paxton said. "While it was overturning, Henderson's vehicle struck the hood of a vehicle driven by 47-year-old Quinton Richard, of Morse.

"Henderson was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected. (He) suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead on scene. Richard was properly restrained and did not report any injuries."

Paxton said that alcohol use is not suspected on the part of Richard but that alcohol use on the part of Henderson is unknown. Toxicology samples were taken and submitted for analysis and the crash remains under investigation.
