Starting Monday, crews will begin repaving a 6.6-mile stretch of U.S. 171 in Leesville, a project that officials with the

state Department of Transportation and Development said should take six months to finish.

The work is on the southbound lanes from 300 feet south of the intersection with La. 10 to 400 feet north of the intersection

of Boone Street. One of the southbound lanes will be open during the project’s duration.

The project area will have restrictions for wide-load vehicles that are more than 10 feet wide.

Prairie Contractors Inc. will work on patching concrete paving, asphalt pavement patching and other work. The company was

awarded the contract for just over $14.2 million.

Deidra Druilhet, a DOTD spokeswoman, said certain aspects of the project will be worked on 24 hours a day in order to reach

the six-month goal.
