Louisiana-Monroe puts McNeese away early

MONROE — Louisiana-Monroe scored seven runs in the first inning and snapped McNeese State’s two-game winning streak with a

17-8 victory Tuesday night in a nonconference game.

ULM (7-5) led 9-1 after two innings.

The Cowboys (6-6) closed the gap to 9-5 in the top of the fourth. But

the Warhawks pulled

away in the bottom half of the inning for a 12-5 lead. The Cowboys

tried to get close again, scoring three runs in the sixth

to make it 12-8 only to see the Warhawks tack on five runs in the

eighth.

Taylor Abdalla was 4-for-6 with five RBIs and a home run to lead ULM. Chris Dudley, who finished 2-for-3 with three RBIs,

also homered.

Junior Ross Rowland (0-1), the first of seven Cowboys pitchers, was charged with the loss after surrendering six earned runs

on two hits and three walks. Tyler Bray (1-0) picked up the victory for ULM as he pitched 2 1/3  innings and allowed no runs, no hits and four strikeouts.

Jackson Gooch led the Cowboys at the plate, going 4-for-5 with an RBI. Tyler Klouser had three hits and four RBIs.

The Cowboys took a 1-0 lead in the first inning as Gooch doubled and scored on a single by Klouser.

ULM responded in the bottom frame of the inning scoring seven runs on three hits. The Warhawks took the lead on an Abdalla

double down the left-field line.

The Cowboys will be home for a four-game weekend series with New Orleans beginning at 6 p.m.
