A 23-year-old Sulphur woman has been arrested after allegedly stealing items from a vehicle at a local nightclub, authorities said.

Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Kim Myers said Crystal D. McClelland, 299 Bergstrom St., stole the victim’s keys, which were sitting on the bar, and used the keys to get into an SUV.

“McClelland removed several items including a cell phone, and a purse which contained credit cards, then returned the keys before the victim realized they were missing,” Myers said Thursday in a news release. “After leaving the nightclub, McClelland made over $250 in purchases with the credit card, including buying gas for her vehicle, cigarettes from a local gas station and food from a local restaurant.

“Deputies received video surveillance from the nightclub which captured McClelland entering the victim’s SUV and stealing the items. When questioned by detectives, McClelland confirmed she stole the items.”

McClelland was charged with simple burglary, theft under $500, theft $500-1,500 and unauthorized use of an access card.

Judge Michael Canaday set McClelland’s bond at $24,500.

Detective David Doucett was the lead investigator.
