OAK GROVE (AP) — Concerns over inadequate
staffing on the night shift at West Carroll Detention Center have forced
Department
of Corrections officials to move about 350 DOC prisoners to state
and other parish facilities across Louisiana over the next
couple of days.
DOC communications director Pam LaBorde told News-Star the department is concerned about the
future of the facility.
West Carroll Parish Sheriff Jerry Philley says DOC officials were at the prison Thursday.
The facility is owned by Emerald Cos.
Once at the assigned locations, LaBorde said offenders will be allowed a phone call to notify family members of their new
housing assignment.
LaBorde said 15 DOC offenders will remain at West Carroll temporarily to assist with the operations of the facility since
it will still house pre-trial inmates.
