SLIDELL (AP) — A Slidell seafood processor has been charged with not reporting thousands of pounds of seafood his business
bought.
The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries says Gary M. Bauer, the 54-year-old owner of Pontchartrain Blue Crab, was
arrested for filing false public records and injuring public records.
The agency says an inspection of purchase
records showed Pontchartrain Blue Crab failed to report the purchase of
170,215
pounds of blue crab and 104,489 pounds of shrimp between January
2010 and July 2011. The company allegedly failed to report
lesser amounts of soft shell crab, sheepshead, flounder and black
drum.
Bauer turned himself in on Oct. 26.
He faces jail time and fines.
