The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office said it made five arrests, helped with two medical emergencies and investigated two theft cases during its annual Robbery Prevention Mobilization at the Prien Lake Mall.
The RPM ran from Nov. 23 to Dec. 26.
“Deputies were on marked ATVs and patrol cars in the parking lot, as well as manning the Sheriff Office’s Mobile Command Center,” Myers said. “Deputies were available to assist shoppers with such things as helping them find their car, jump starting dead batteries, changing flats and walking employees and shoppers to their cars after dark.
“Deputies worked this special detail to provide assistance to the public during the busy holiday season. They were not hired by the mall or nor were they doing security for the mall. However, the presence of law enforcement on the premises is expected to deter crime in the parking lot. This is the ninth year the Sheriff’s Office has provided this service.”
Myers said deputies responded to the following:
• 1,512 assistance calls
• Two medical emergencies
• 1,116 business checks
• Two misdemeanor thefts
• 23 reports of suspicious vehicles
• Five misdemeanor summons/arrests
• Three fights
• 102 vehicle-traffic related incidents
