METAIRIE (AP) — Saints coach Sean Payton says cornerback Patrick Robinson will miss the rest of the season with a right knee injury.

Robinson, a 2010 first-round draft choice, injured his patella tendon during the third quarter of New Orleans’ 16-14 victory at Tampa Bay last Sunday.

Payton says the Saints have replaced Robinson on the roster with veteran cornerback Chris Carr, who’d been with New Orleans during training camp and was among the club’s final cuts.

Robinson was a starter last season, but this season was moved to a backup role, in part because of the arrival of free agent Keenan Lewis. Robinson also was rehabilitating from an earlier injury when the preseason began, which prevented him from practicing during the first week of training camp.
