Three days after finishing third in the 3rd Congressional District election, Democrat Ron Richard officially endorsed Charles
Boustany, a Republican, in the runoff.
Boustany, of Lafayette, faces Jeff Landry, R-New Iberia, in the Dec. 8 runoff vote. Both are incumbents who were pitted against
each other after congressional districts were realigned.
Boustany led Tuesday’s ballot with 45 percent (133,876 votes); Landry finished second with 30 percent (90,576); and Richard
was third with 22 percent (64,604).
“Dr. Boustany has met with me and
convinced me and assured me that he is going to do everything in his
power to address the
concerns of my constituency, which is the working men and women of
Southwest Louisiana,” said Richard, who was at the courthouse
with Boustany on Friday. “He has promised access and an ear to
their concerns.”
“I pledge to stay in close contact with him to address the issues that he’s concerned about and the constituency that voted
for him is concerned about,” Boustany said.
