Residents face Monday deadline for property taxes

By By John Guidroz / American Press

Calcasieu Parish residents have until Monday to pay their 2012 property taxes without having to pay any interest or additional

penalties.

Payments made after the deadline are charged 1 percent interest per month and could include more costs mandated by the Louisiana

Revised Statutes. Property owners receive notices every four years informing them of their reassessed property values. The

updated values surprised some residents and business owners, whose property taxes increased by more than 50 percent.

People can pay their taxes by visiting the Calcasieu Sheriff’s Office website — www.cpso.com. Payments can be made using a

Visa, MasterCard or Discover credit card. The website also allows taxpayers to view and print their bill.

Those wanting to pay their taxes in person can visit two locations: 1011 Lakeshore Drive, Suite 100, in Lake Charles; 1525

Cypress St. in Sulphur.

Payments can also be mailed to Calcasieu Sheriff’s Tax Division, P.O. Box 1450, Lake Charles, LA 70602. To find out how much

is due before mailing your payment, go to www.cpso.com or call the tax office at 491-3680.

For information on property tax payments, call the Tax Division at 491-3680 or the Calcasieu Tax Assessor’s Office at 721-3000.
