WESTLAKE — First Baptist Church of Westlake was the site for the launch of a new faith-based reality program that follows four women who conquered hardships on their journey of self-discovery through Christ.

On Sunday, Executive Producer Peggy Frazier O’Connor was joined by the cast of “In Search of Steel Magnolias” — dedicating the production and its website. The reality show is an episodic series that will emphasize the untold stories of Christian women.

Host of “In Search of Steel Magnolias” Sharon Braxton was the emcee. The young women included on the show are third runner-up to Miss Texas 2013 Kaylee Killingsworth, country singer Madelyn Victoria and actress Ashley Seal.

O’Connor said the four women will travel and “uncover the hidden Mother Teresas of the world” — women who are changing their communities in the name of God.

“Around the world I am raising up women, and I’m doing remarkable things through them,” O’Connor told the congregation. “People’s circumstances don’t define them. God defines them.”

The show is presently in pre-production and their goal is weekly programming followed by DVD distribution.

The event was a tribute to Susan Robinson, who died in the mid-1980s from complications of diabetes and was the basis of the 1989 movie Steel Magnolias. The night was also dedicated to O’Connor’s late father Dr. Taylor Frazier, who was an evangelist and died at a revival at the church in 1973. The ceremony marked the 40th anniversary of his death.
