Rayne man facing drug-related charges after arrest

JENNINGS — A Rayne man is facing drug-related charges following a traffic stop in Jeff Davis Parish on Saturday.

Forrest Charles III, 30, was arrested for possession of Hydrocodone and speeding.

Deputies stopped a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed on Interstate 10 westbound, four miles west of Jennings around 3:14 p.m. Saturday.

Deputies say when they exited the patrol unit, the suspect began slowing backing until he hit the unit.

The driver was ordered to turn off the vehicle.

Deputies say they could smell a strong odor of burnt marijuana and air freshener coming from inside the vehicle.

Charles gave deputies written consent to search the vehicle. Deputies found a cigarette pack containing 8-1/2 pills identified as Hydrocodone in a clear plastic bag. Deputies also found stacks of money totaling $8,921 wrapped in a rubber ban in the center console of the vehicle.

All contraband and currency was seized.””
