A 23-year-old woman from Orange, Texas, has been charged with vehicular homicide, first-offense DWI and careless operation following a fatal one-vehicle accident early Sunday morning in Vinton.

The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to an accident at the 1500 block of Wright Road in Vinton.

"Upon arrival, deputies spoke with the driver, Devon D. Courmier," said Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Ashley Bazinet. "They detected a strong odor of alcohol emitting from her breath."

Bazinet said the truck was traveling northbound on Wright Road and appeared to have run off the road to the right and hit a tree.

Courmier and passenger 24-year-old David Kurdupski, of Vidor, Texas, were transported to a local hospital where Kurdupski died as a result of his injuries.

Courmier suffered non-life threatening injuries.

As mandated by state law in all traffic fatalities, a toxicology report will be performed on Courmier.

Cpl. Luke Pierrotti was the lead investigator in this accident.
