JENNINGS — Two Jennings men have been indicted in connection with the New Year’s Eve slaying of Ruston “Rusty” Reed.

A grand jury handed up second-degree murder and obstruction of justice charges against Keagon Drew Reon, 21, and accessory

after the fact to second-degree murder and obstruction of justice charges against Jules Patrick Batiste, 22.

If convicted on second-degree murder, Reon faces life in prison without parole. Reon remains in jail on $500,000 bond awaiting

trial; Batiste is being held on $75,000 bond.

The two were arrested Jan. 1 after a passing motorist found Reed’s body lying in a roadway on New Year’s Eve.

Reon told investigators he shot Reed in the head at Batiste’s residence in the 1800 block of Joe Louis Street in Jennings

before dumping his body nearby on Racca Road.

The two were best friends, according to police.

An autopsy revealed that Reed died of a gunshot wound to the head. A motive for the slaying has not been released by police.
