NEW ORLEANS (AP) — An Orleans Parish grand jury has formally indicted two brothers in a shooting spree that left 20 people hurt on Mother’s Day in New Orleans.
Twenty-four-year-old Shawn Scott and his 19-year-old brother, Akein (AYE’-kihn) Scott, each was charged with 20 counts of attempted second-degree murder and 14 counts of aggravated assault with a firearm.
Four others were charged as accessories after the fact in the case.
The indictments were announced Thursday in magistrate court where Shawn Scott had been scheduled for a preliminary hearing in the case.
Scott and his brother were arrested days after the shooting at a second-line parade. Bond for each of them was initially set at $10 million. Those bonds were increased following the indictment.
