A 49-year-old woman died early Saturday morning in a single-vehicle accident at Belfield and Pinecone drives in Moss Bluff, authorities said.

Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Kim Myers said the woman, Vickie A. Winters of Moss Bluff, wasn’t wearing a seatbelt and had to be extricated from the car.

She was pronounced dead at the scene, Myers said.

Investigators said the car was speeding south on Belfield at about 2 a.m. when it slammed into the embankment and standing trees on the south side of Pinecone after failing to stop at the intersection’s stop sign.

“It is not known if alcohol was a factor,” Myers said in a news release. “However, a toxicology report will be conducted as mandated by state law.”
