McNeese hits road for series at Texas-Arlington

The McNeese baseball hits the road for its final non-conference weekend series against Texas-Arlington. The series opens Friday at 6:30 p.m. before a 2 p.m. Saturday contest and a 1 p.m. finale on Sunday.

The Cowboys (8-7) opened last weekend's series against the UNO with a 5-2 win on Friday before splitting a doubleheader with the Privateers on Saturday. The MSU-UNO Sunday game was postponed by rain.

UTA (9-7) lost 12-2 score to Arkansas-Little Rock on Tuesday.

McNeese freshman right-hander Bryce Kingsley (2-2) will start Friday, senior right-hander Blake Ware (3-1) will start Saturday and sophomore right-hander Michael Clemens will get the nod for Sunday.

Leftfielder Jackson Gooch is hitting .440 (11-for-25) with two doubles, two homers, eight RBIs and seven runs in the last five game for the Cowboys. He hit home runs in consecutive games this past weekend against UNO.

UTA is led at the plate by outfielder Matt Shortall who is batting .393 with 22 hits, six doubles, three triples, a home run and 15 RBIs. Infielder Ryan Walker is batting .328 with 20 hits, a home run and 12 RBIs.

The Mavericks are hitting .280 as a team with three homers and 17 steals.

It will be the 121st meeting between the programs and the series is tied 60-all.
