McNeese’s Killam places third in Moe O’Brien event

KINDER — McNeese State’s Michael Killam shot a 2-under-par 70 Tuesday during the final round of the Moe O’Brien Intercollegiate

to finish in third place, one shot off the lead.

The Cowboys wrapped up the two-day,

36-hole event at Koasati Pines in fourth place in the team event at 583. Houston Baptist

won the team title at 564. HBU’s Jeffrey Merrell and Stephen F. Austin’s Mitchell

McLeroy tied for the individual crown with 7-under 137s.

Killam shot a 4-under 68 during Monday’s rain-plagued day that wiped out 18-holes.

Stephen F. Austin was second at 578 and was followed by Louisiana-Monroe (581), McNeese, Texas-Pan American (585), UNO (587)

and Nicholls State (589).

Also for the Cowboys, Scott Sweeney tied for 15th, Kendall Magee and Cole Glass tied for 21st place and Jack Clyde tied for


“I’m disappointed with our performance today,” said first-year Cowboys head coach Austin Burk. “The course was not playing

too difficult. But it is an improvement from last week but we still have a long way to go.

“I am proud of (Michael) Killam’s performance. His last three rounds have been good. His hard work is paying off so that

is encouraging.”

The Cowboys are off until Oct. 1-2, when they will compete in Louisiana Tech’s Squire Creek Invitational.
