One Moss Bluff man is dead and another has been arrested following a fight early New Year's Day, authorities said.
Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office spokesperson Kim Myers said Matthew V. Crochet, 36, died Wednesday following a fight on South Perkins Ferry Road.
Myers said 41-year-old Brian D. Diamond, 904 S. Perkins Ferry Road, was arrested Jan. 1 and charged second-degree battery. Because Crochet died, Myers said Diamond’s charges will likely be upgraded and that the investigation is continuing.
"At approximately 2:35 a.m., the Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a fight at a New Year’s Eve party on S. Perkins Ferry Road in Moss Bluff," Myers said. "Deputies discovered Crochet lying on the ground unresponsive. Medical emergency personnel were called and transported Crochet to a Lafayette hospital for treatment for severe head trauma where he died as a result of his injuries."
Judge Clayton Davis set Diamond's bond at $350,000.
CPSO Detective Kathy LeBlanc was the lead investigator.
