A man accused of killing a co-worker Nov. 30 committed suicide around 3:45 p.m. Friday, officials said.

Dustin Pleasant, 26, hanged himself at Angola State Penitentiary, Calcasieu Parish District Attorney John DeRosier confirmed late Friday night.

Pleasant, who was alone in his cell, "was found unresponsive with a blanket around his neck" after 3 p.m. Friday, said Department of Corrections spokeswoman Pam LaBorde.

Pleasant was transported to the R.E. Barrow Treatment Center at Angola, where he was pronounced dead.

Pleasant was accused of murdering Brittany Grosse, a co-worker at Big Daddy’s Sports Grill. Her body was found on the corner of Alma and Melvin Lanes.

Pleasant was working at Big Daddy’s as part of Calcasieu Parish’s Transitional Work Program.

Pleasant was 250 days away from completing a six-year term for assaulting an officer.

“I just hope the family can get the closure they deserve,” DeRosier said. “It’s a difficult situation no matter what happens to the defendant.”
