A 47-year-old Lake Charles man has been charged with simple burglary, theft over $500, illegal possession of stolen things and criminal trespass, authorities said.

Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Kim Myers said Mitchell R. Colton, 2302 Cypress St., was arrested Monday.

“Around 6 p.m., deputies were dispatched to a mobile home business located on Broad Street in reference to a burglary in progress,” Myers said in a news release. “When deputies arrived, they observed a Colton fleeing the property of the business on a bike with a large curio cabinet.”

The cabinet was recovered and returned to the owner, Myers said.

Judge Michael Canaday set Colton’s bond at $40,000.

Sr. Cpl. Joshua Bazinet was the arresting deputy.
