Lafayette High teacher accused of throwing hammer at student

LAFAYETTE (AP) — Police in Lafayette have issued a misdemeanor citation to a teacher accused of throwing a hammer at a student at Lafayette High School.

The incident happened a week ago. Cpl. Paul Mouton of the Lafayette Police Department said nobody was struck or injured.

Mouton said the teacher — identified as Gene Daigle — was issued a misdemeanor summons Friday for aggravated assault. He was not booked into jail.

School district spokeswoman Angela Morrison said in an email to The Advertiser that the district cooperated with police in the investigation.

Daigle is listed as an industrial arts teacher on the school website. He has not commented publicly on the incident.
