Jury selection began in two trials Tuesday in 14th Judicial District Court.

A jury was picked in Gerald DeBarge’s stalking case, and jury selection is expected to continue today in James Elliot Porter’s

rape case.

Porter, 24, is charged with forcible rape.

DeBarge, 47, is charged with two counts of violating a protective order, one count of stalking, and one count of injuring

or killing a police animal.

DeBarge, who is representing himself, was warned by Judge Michael Canaday that any outbursts would result in him communicating

with the courtroom through video.

After outbursts in previous court appearances, Judge David Ritchie ordered DeBarge silenced with duct tape for a March 2011

court hearing.

Ritchie sentenced DeBarge to 24 months

in jail for contempt of court, although the charges were suspended after

DeBarge apologized.
