JENNINGS — A $500,000 bond has been set for a Jennings man accused of fatally shooting his friend on New Year's Eve and dumping

his body on the side of a road.

District Judge Steve Gunnel set the bond Thursday for Keagan Reon, 21. Reon is charged with the New Year's Eve murder of Ruston

"Rusty" Reed, 21, of Jennings.

A $75,000 bond was also set for Jules Patrick Batiste, 22, of Jennings. Batiste is charged with accessory after the fact to

second-degree murder.

The two were arrested Wednesday less than 24 hours after Reed's body was found lying in the road by a passing motorist.

Reon told investigators with the Jennings Police Department that he shot Reed in the head at Batiste's residence in the 1800

block of Joe Louis Street in Jennings before dumping his body nearby on Racca Road.

An autopsy revealed that Reed died of a single gunshot wound to the head.

Investigators were able to obtain information from several sources, including Reed's family members, that led them to the

suspects, Police Chief Todd D'Albor said.

A motive for the slaying has not been released by police.
