Jeff Davis Parish Fair begins Oct. 3 in Jennings

JENNINGS — The Jefferson Davis Parish Fair returns Oct. 3-6 with four days of carnival rides, games, antique tractor pulls

and livestock shows.

The fair officially opens at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 3, with a talent show and continues through 11 p.m. Saturday, Oct.


Participants from throughout the parish

will compete for awards in various categories, including baking,

sewing, art, photography

and livestock.

Registration for homemaking, agriculture, poultry, rabbit and livestock entries will be 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Tuesday at the fairground


A petting farm will be open 1-3 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday. Animals will include pigs, calves, lambs, rabbits and chicks.

Residents will have a chance to showcase their talents and help kick off the fair during the 14th annual Jefferson Davis Parish

Fair Talent Show at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the fairgrounds arena.

The fairgrounds open at 9 a.m. Thursday for judging of agriculture, homemaking, youth exhibits and school booths.

The queen’s pageant will be at 8 p.m. Thursday, featuring juniors and seniors from area high schools.

All livestock, poultry and rabbits must be in the barn 6-10 a.m. Friday. Judging begins at noon.

The annual fair parade rolls at 9 a.m. Janet Clement Doucet, who has served on the fair board for many years, will lead the parade.

It will line up at James Ward Elementary School at the corner of North Main Street and Shankland Avenue and continue south

on Main.

Friday is School Day. All parish schools will be closed to allow students to attend the festivities.

4-H and Future Farmers of America members will showcase their work during the livestock shows held throughout the day.

A needlework demonstration will be 11 a.m.-1 p.m. in the multipurpose building.

An antique tractor and lawnmower pull will be at 10 a.m. Saturday.
