What is the substitute teacher pay, for degreed and non-degreed teachers, for Calcasieu Parish and the charter schools?
The charter schools pay non-degreed substitutes $10 an hour, said Pam Quebodeaux, principal at both Lake Charles Charter Academy
and Southwest Louisiana Charter Academy.
Those who have degrees but lack teacher certification receive $11 an hour, and degreed, certified substitutes receive $12
an hour, she said.
According to the parish school system’s salary schedule, which is available online, Calcasieu schools pay non-degreed substitute
teachers $58 a day. The degreed but not certified receive $65 a day, and those with both degrees and certification receive
$80.
The pay rates for various other substitute positions in the Calcasieu school system:
Paraprofessional — $56.50 a day.
Bus driver — $57 a day.
Bus attendant — $30 a day.
School clerk — $56.50 a day.
Food-service worker — $51 a day.
Custodian — $7.25 an hour.
Adult education teacher — $18.50 an hour.
The minimum pay for daily substitutes
in other area parishes — for certified; noncertified, degreed; and
noncertified, non-degreed
— according to the state Department of Education:
Allen — $65, $65, $55.
Beauregard — $67.75, $67.75, $50.75.
Cameron — $140, $105, $70.
Jefferson Davis — $80, $70, $60.
Vernon — $65, $65, $50.75.
Note:
The numbers for Vernon Parish listed in the state salary schedule show
that certified substitutes get paid the same as noncertified,
non-degreed subs. But a spokesperson with the Vernon school system
said that was wrong and supplied The Informer with the
correct figures.
