Informer: Lot owner responsible for costs of towing car

By By Andrew Perzo / American Press

Can you tell me who to contact regarding how to have vehicles towed if they are not to be parking in your parking lot?

“If the offending vehicle is parked on a private lot, and if the owner of that private lot wishes to have the vehicle removed,

it becomes the lot owner’s responsibility,” Lake Charles police Cpl. Larry Moss wrote in an email.

“They would have to contact the towing company of their choice and have the vehicle removed at their own expense.”

Fog lights OK; restrictions apply

Is it legal to drive with your fog lights on?

Yes.

But you have to turn them off in clear weather when you’re within 500 feet of oncoming cars and when you’re following at least

200 feet behind another car.

The restrictions don’t apply “during periods of inclement weather or fog.”

New light system requires request

Why don’t they have street lights on I-10 when you get on after the loop at La. 108? It’s very dark there. You cannot see.

“A number of high-mast street lights lie within the interchange area of I-10 with La. 108,” Steve Jiles, the state Department

of Transportation and Development’s regional administrator, wrote in an email.

“In order for a new street-lighting

system to be considered for the areas of I-10 to the east or west of La.

108, a local

political subdivision such as the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury or

city of Sulphur would be required to submit a formal request.”

If transportation officials were to OK

the request — which would be measured against state and federal highway

policies —

then the DOTD would design and build the lighting system, as long

the political subdivision agreed to three conditions, Jiles

said.

The political subdivision must agree to

pay federal matching funds — “usually 10 percent of the total

construction cost,”

Jiles said; it must agree to take on the system’s maintenance and

operating costs; and it must take on all legal liability,

he said.

School track open on weekends

Why is the Sulphur High School track being locked up on weekends?

School officials said the track is left unlocked on weekends.
