BATON ROUGE (AP) — House Speaker Chuck Kleckley is pressing for the details of Gov. Bobby Jindal’s proposed tax code rewrite.

Kleckley, a Republican from Lake Charles, sent a letter Tuesday to the GOP governor’s chief of staff, asking for Jindal’s tax plan to be delivered to the state House by March 15.

The House speaker says that would give the House Ways and Means Committee time to hold a series of hearings on the specifics of the proposal, which lawmakers will debate in the legislative session that begins in April.

Jindal has proposed getting rid of the state’s income taxes, in exchange for higher and more sales taxes, removal of some tax breaks and other changes.

Kleckley says the public needs time to comb through the details and offer feedback to lawmakers.””
